Girl Jumps From Beach Chairlift During Storm

A girl on the Sky Ride at Seaside Heights, N.J., jumped off the chairlift above the beach as a thunderstorm approached. The girl only had bruises.

"The beach is not a good place to be during a thunderstorm because there aren't very many points higher than you," AccuWeather meteorologist Jesse Ferrell said. "Thunderstorms can develop suddenly from 'sea-breeze' fronts that form near the shore, and you could miss a storm's warning sound (thunder) because of the pounding surf."
