Weekend Showers for Georgia, Carolinas, Florida

Spotty showers and thunderstorms will affect the South this weekend, followed by heat relief next week.
A zone of high pressure nosing in from the Atlantic Ocean has acted like a dome much of this week deflecting downpours to the south, west and north.
The high is already breaking down. A new high pressure area will build over Texas and the southern Plains this weekend.
A breakdown of this weather system in the Southeast will allow at least some spotty shower activity over hard-hit drought areas of northern Florida, Georgia and South Carolina Saturday and Sunday.
According to Southern Weather Expert Dan Kottlowski, "Most of the downpours this weekend will be during Saturday and generally focused over the Carolinas."
The rainfall will be very spotty, but a few locales will be hit with a drenching downpour and perhaps urban flooding.

However, Kottlowski added that there will be another opportunity for rainfall in the Southeast during the middle of next week.
"A storm system pushing inland from the Northwest this weekend will pull moisture up from the Gulf of Mexico and will drag a frontal system across the South next week," Kottlowski said.
As the ridge of high pressure re-orientates to the south-central U.S., Texas and the southern Plains will heat up and temperatures will throttle back from their mid-summer levels over the Southeast next week.
