Large storm heads into the Northeast Tuesday

February 11, 2019; 9:57 AM

A storm from the Southwestern states will move to the Great Lakes Tuesday and into eastern Canada later Wednesday. The extent of the storm's precipitation area is unusually large. The map below shows precipitation from Texas to Pennsylvania. In the I-95 corridor from eastern Pennsylvania to Rhode Island, snow will spread from southwest to northeast tonight and Tuesday, but then change to sleet freezing rain and then rain. Farther to the north and west of this zone, there will be an increasing amount of snow follow by some sleet and freezing rain as far north as southern New York state and southern New England. Cold air will return behind the storm on Wednesday, but Thursday and Friday should be somewhat milder.
