Northeast to remain mainly dry into the weekend

1. This morning's pressure analysis shows the latest in the series of cold fronts that have moved through the Northeast. As has been the case with its predecessors, the northwest winds behind the front will not last long enough to bring very cold air much farther south than northern New England.
2. This map shows the distribution of clouds, fog and precipitation around the United States just after 6 a.m. ET:
A few days ago, there was concern about whether a storm would emerge from a disturbance in the Southwest. The cloud and shower zone moving into parts of Missouri and Arkansas represents what is left of that system, which is moving almost straight east.
